In the flurry of new California bills signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in October, one stands out for immediate employer attention: AB 469, the Wage Theft Prevention Act of 2011, which will require employers to provide certain new hires with a written wage disclosure beginning Jan. 1. The WTPA is modeled on a similar law that recently took effect in New York.

The new California disclosure requirement, as well as other provisions in the new law, are designed to strengthen the Labor Code penalties for wage violations.
