The U.S. Supreme Court reversed a judgment of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. The court held that detectives’ intentional Miranda violation when obtaining a suspect’s voluntary forgery confession did not preclude admission of his later, warned, voluntary murder confession received during a new and distinct interrogation.

Archie Dixon and Tim Hoffner murdered Chris Hammer so that they could steal his car. Dixon then sold Hammer’s car using falsely-obtained identification documents.
