SAN FRANCISCO — While the Santa Clara County district attorney’s office faces allegations of misconduct that could affect hundreds of child sexual assault cases, new evidence and testimony in an unrelated suit has prompted plaintiff lawyers in that case to question other practices in the DA’s sex assault unit.

Attorneys representing Michael Kerkeles, who once faced charges of raping his neighbor, say that the deputy DA prosecuting Kerkeles planned to use a fake lab report prepared by the arresting officer to force Kerkeles to plead guilty. In recent deposition testimony, that prosecutor, Jaime Stringfield, has failed to explain contradictions and holes in her story that indicate she was acting in bad faith, they say.
