SAN FRANCISCO — Equal Rights Advocates took on big causes and cases under Executive Director Irma Herrera. Eight years ago, the five-lawyer San Francisco nonprofit helped initiate Dukes v. Wal-Mart , the giant class action on behalf of the store’s female employees.

But it will fall to someone else to see the battle to its conclusion. After 14 years at ERA, Herrera is stepping down at the end of this month. ERA is conducting a nationwide search for a successor and hopes to have one named before Herrera goes.
