A stream of law school deans and plaintiffs bar attorneys told a State Bar Court judge on Wednesday that the professional misconduct charges leveled against former California State Bar Executive Director Joe Dunn don’t square with the ethically “impeccable” man they know.

As Dunn faced the second day of trial that could lead to his disbarment, University of California at Berkeley School of Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky testified that he has “the highest regard” for the former Orange County state senator. Chemerinsky, who served as UC Irvine Law School’s founding dean until 2017, hired Dunn to be the school’s director of development. Dunn no longer works at the school.
