A former state bar executive ghostwrote as many as seven lawyer discipline reports, including at least one involving disgraced attorney Tom Girardi, that were supposed to be handled by outside counsel, according to a report the California state bar released Wednesday.

The report, prepared for the bar by Adams, Duerk & Kamenstein, found that then-Deputy Executive Director Robert “Bob” Hawley was the true author of at least five documents bearing the names of private attorneys submitted between 2010 and 2015. The bar had retained those attorneys to investigate complaints against lawyers in cases where the Office of Chief Trial Counsel had a conflict of interest.
