With the help of a Baker Botts team, former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has jumped into litigation pitting gig economy giants Uber and Lyft against the state's biggest organized labor groups.

Schwarzenegger this week filed an amicus brief in Castellanos v. State of California, a case brought by several ride-hailing drivers and the Service Employees International Union challenging Proposition 22. That's the 2020 initiative that allowed app-based transportation and delivery companies to classify their workers as independent contractors.
