Seven candidates are in the running to replace Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer, whose term ends Dec. 31, in the election Tuesday. Feuer assumed the office in 2013 and had been running in the Los Angeles mayoral election but dropped out of the race on May 17.

The candidates for city attorney—whose duties include civil litigation on behalf of city agencies and prosecution of misdemeanor offenses—are:

  • Faisal Gill: Civil rights attorney and former U.S. Department of Homeland Security policy adviser
  • Hydee Feldstein Soto: Former Sullivan & Cromwell attorney and Kin Community interim general counsel
  • Kevin James: Lavely & Singer entertainment lawyer, former talk radio host, prior president of the Los Angeles Board of Public Works and former Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher attorney
  • Marina Torres: Former federal prosecutor and Halpern May Ybarra Gelberg of counsel
  • Richard Kim: Deputy city attorney
  • Sherri Onica Valle Cole: Deputy city attorney
  • Teddy Kapur: California Democratic Party treasurer and former O’Melveny & Myers attorney
