Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton is boosting its private equity practice with a transactional tax partner from Kirkland & Ellis. Josh McLane will join the firm’s Orange County office. McLane has previously served as general counsel for CareTrust REIT and was a senior tax associate at Deloitte. The partner’s practice focused on tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, divestitures, joint ventures, financings and restructurings.

After 24 years as an appellate and superior court judge, former Justice David Thompson of California’s Fourth District Court of Appeal has joined JAMS. Thompson will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator in the alternative dispute resolution provider’s Orange County Resolution Center. The retired judge will handle appellate, real property, business and commercial, construction defect, personal injury and torts, professional liability, estate/probate/trusts, employment, insurance, environmental, family and banking disputes.
