A Northern California lawyer who sued the Third District Court of Appeal for taking years to dispose of some criminal cases lacks standing, an attorney for the Sacramento appellate court said in a response filed Monday in the California Supreme Court.

Reed Smith partner Raymond Cardozo, arguing on behalf of the Third District Court, said any complaints about case delays must be pursued by individual appellants, not by Jon Eisenberg, the Healdsburg attorney who filed a writ petition in July asking the high court to compel the appellate court to speed up its work.
