In spite of rising employment across the overall economy and other professional services areas, the legal profession lost 1,400 jobs in March. It now employs 1,127,600 attorneys, according to Friday’s Bureau of Labor Statistics employment situation summary.

The dip followed months of steady gains, with the profession gaining almost 6,000 jobs last month, according to corrected BLS estimates. Since April 2020′s low of 1,092,100 jobs, legal services hiring has steadily risen every month with the exception of December.
