Fourteen retired judges, including three who served on the California Supreme Court, have submitted a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom, asking him to appoint Associate Justice Goodwin Liu as the next attorney general.

The letter, dated Jan. 7, cites Liu’s “real intellectual heft and legal expertise” and calls him a potential attorney general “who will work alongside you to navigate and overcome the unprecedented crises confronting California and our nation.”
