Ethan Davis, a former top U.S. Justice Department official who oversaw consumer protection efforts and litigation in defense of Trump administration policies, has rejoined King & Spalding as a partner in the firm’s San Francisco office.

Davis stepped down in September as the acting head of the Justice Department’s civil division, a role he assumed following the surprise resignation of former assistant attorney general Jody Hunt earlier in the summer. In the final months of his Justice Department tenure, Davis presided over early efforts to crack down on fraud against federal programs aimed at propping up businesses struggling to stay afloat amid the pandemic.
