SACRAMENTO — A Merced County judge could lose his job for allegedly failing to disclose that he was receiving monthly payments from his former business partners, even as that firm’s attorneys appeared before him in court.

The Commission on Judicial Performance (CJP) announced on Tuesday that it had initiated formal proceedings against Superior Court Judge Marc Garcia, a seven-year veteran of the Merced County bench. The procedural step is the first in a process that could lead to his removal from office.
