SAN FRANCISCO — Fitbit Inc. and its lawyers at Fenwick & West scored a win on Monday by knocking out a trademark and unfair-competition suit filed by a British rival in the market for portable fitness tracking devices.

U.S. District Judge Samuel Conti of the Northern District of California rejected Fitbug Ltd.’s claims on summary judgment, finding that the company had waited an unreasonably long time to file suit against Fitbit. Conti’s decision stamped out the case two weeks before a trial that was set to begin on Feb. 9.
