Pennsylvania saw its fair share of big verdicts and settlements over the past year, but, when adding up the highest awards, courts across the state saw a drop of nearly $2 billion when compared to the previous year. The number is by far the lowest lump payout the state has seen in top verdicts over at least the past five years.

According to PaLaw Magazine’s list of the top 50 verdicts and settlements, plaintiffs received about $388 million between August 2015 and July 2016. During that same period the year before, the sum of the top awards garnered the plaintiffs nearly $2.25 billion. The year before that, plaintiffs saw $3.33 billion, and slightly more than $2 billion the year before that.
