With the U.S. Supreme Court taking a pass on a challenge to the $1 billion National Football League concussion settlement, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit’s ruling upholding the settlement—and possibly its most high-profile decision of the year—was preserved.

In April, the Third Circuit affirmed a lower court that the settlement was adequate compensation for players suffering from an array of brain injuries, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The $1 billion concussion litigation settlement is poised to compensate more than 20,000 former players.
