As an attorney who has been handling civil litigation matters for more than 10 years, my career had a conventional start, meandered off of the traditional track and eventually returned to a more conventional path. I once attended a high school graduation in which the commencement speaker encouraged the graduating class to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. I committed this adage to memory and have lived it. After graduating from law school, I began practicing at a plaintiffs personal injury law firm. I had my first child and eventually transitioned out of plaintiffs personal injury law and joined a general practice firm. This firm practiced many areas of law, which excited a younger attorney who didn’t know what she wanted to “major in” yet. I had been hired to assist an attorney with his insurance defense practice, as well as to accept any other cases or projects assigned to me.
