With her criminal trial behind her and sentencing a few weeks away, former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane has hired a new defense attorney from Montgomery County.
Marc R. Steinberg filed a praecipe for entry of appearance Tuesday in Kane’s criminal case in the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas. Steinberg is the managing partner of Rubin, Glickman, Steinberg & Gifford, and is located in Colmar. He has led the firm since 1980.
Kane was found guilty last month of two felony counts of perjury and seven misdemeanors for leaking grand jury documents to a reporter and lying about it under oath. Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 24, where she faces a potential jail sentence.
Kane’s new lawyer is also a former Montgomery County assistant district attorney and was a part of a Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board hearing committee for six years. His firm’s website describes him as “the lawyer other lawyers call when they have a problem.”
Lawyers for Kane have indicated that they plan to appeal the conviction. Gerald L. Shargel of Winston & Strawn said after the jury returned its verdict that his team was denied the chance to make a full defense at trial.
Other than Shargel and now Steinberg, Kane’s defense team includes Seth Farber and Ross Kramer of Winston & Strawn, Douglas Rosenblum of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti and Scranton attorney Amil Minora.
Steinberg did not return a call seeking comment.
