As law firms nationwide experience a record pace for mergers and acquisitions, Philadelphia-area firms have accounted for a significant share of the activity.

In the second quarter of 2016, 28 law firm combinations were announced in the United States, according to MergerLine, a report compiled by Newtown Square-based legal consulting firm Altman Weil. Five of the 28 combinations, or about 18 percent, were acquisitions by a Philadelphia-area law firm.
