A political consultant from Allentown pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to charges stemming from an FBI investigation into the Allentown and Reading city governments. Michael Fleck, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit extortion and bribery offenses and one count of tax evasion. Fleck, who is cooperating with the government’s investigation as part of a plea deal, admitted to using his consulting business to facilitate a conspiracy involving public officials offering government contracts to potential donors, one of which was a law firm, in exchange for campaign donations.

Additionally, Fleck admitted to filing false tax returns for his consulting business from 2011 to 2013, which, according to the prosecution, caused a loss of $77,000 to the government.
