During testimony in an employment discrimination lawsuit against the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, U.S. Rep. Patrick Meehan, R-Pa., was forced to recall Wednesday his days of running that office as U.S. attorney.

He painted a picture of an understaffed, financially strapped office that was dealing with a growing workload and fewer attorneys to handle it. When one of those attorneys didn’t pull his weight, forcing other attorneys in the office to cover for him, Meehan and his management were forced to discipline and ultimately terminate the attorney in October 2007, he said.
