In order to not risk the validity of its liens, the federal government bears the responsibility of ensuring they are correctly indexed in local court offices, an Allegheny County Common Pleas judge has ruled.

If federal liens are not indexed correctly, liens lodged by the state and judgement creditors may be satisfied first — even if they’re not normally designated a higher priority by statute, Judge Judith L. A. Friedman held in what appears to be the first ruling of its type in Pennsylvania.
