The trio of federal prosecutors who will take on the prosecution of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Chicago Democrat in his second term, is a well-oiled team that has tackled other high-profile cases and prevailed.

Prosecutors Reid Schar, Carrie Hamilton and Chris Niewoehner, like their boss, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, are not native Chicagoans and have already taken on other Chicago political machine players. The three prosecutors worked together on the trial earlier this year of Blagojevich fundraiser, Antoin “Tony” Rezko, and led the case to a conviction in June on 16 counts of fraud and money-laundering.
