A series of recent court decisions in California are carving out the nation’s most significant case law about whether governmental entities, such as cities and counties, must account for impact upon climate change when approving local construction projects under development.

So far this year, six rulings, most of which have been issued in recent months, have split on whether global warming is a factor to analyze in approving a project under the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA.
