The start of 2023 has been filled with unease for the queer community. The Human Rights Campaign has found that over 390 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced into state legislatures in the last five years, and the number is growing exponentially.

The most recent shocking display of anti-LGBTQ+ behavior happened on the floor of Montana’s House of Representatives. Just this week, Montana’s Republican governor, Greg Gianforte, signed a bill to ban gender-affirming medical care for young transgender people—the battle over which ended with the banning of Democratic Rep. Zooey Zephyr from the House floor.
