• On Oct. 13, at 12 p.m., join Pennsylvania For Modern Courts for a community educational workshop on Family Court at the Philadelphia Free Library. The event is hybrid and will be presented by Phyllis Bookspan. This program will cover three topics of Family Court: dependency, divorce, child custody and child support. Dependency refers to whether the caregiver is serving as an adequate guardian for a “dependent” or child. The child custody portion discusses disputes between parents and other caregivers over their rights to a child’s custody. The child support presentation provides insight into the legal responsibilities of parents in supporting their children.

• On Oct. 13, the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ACLU of Pennsylvania will host its annual meeting titled “Defending Democracy” at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. David Cole, legal director of the ACLU, will speak in addition to other local speakers. More information to come.
