Book banning and even book burnings are not a new phenomenon, in fact, some of the most controversial books in history are now regarded as classics; the Bible and works by Shakespeare are among the most banned books over the last two thousand years.

What is new however, is the unprecedented skyrocketing number of books being banned all over the United States and the complete lack of awareness that proponents of book banning have around the Orwellian nature of book banning specifically and violations of our First Amendment right to free speech generally.
