A bipartisan group of lawmakers from both houses of the General Assembly on Sept. 9 introduced bills to establish a statewide tracking system for sexual assault evidence, which would be administered jointly by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Department of Health.

House Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia; Pennsylvania Sen. Katie Muth, D-Montgomery; and state Rep. Tarah Toohil, R-Luzerne, said the legislation would allow victims of sexual assault to track the status of their evidence and give them information on who to contact for more information. The bill would also create an Advisory Committee to help develop and implement best practices in creating and maintaining a tracking system.
