The Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas held its first civil jury trials Monday, just one week shy of marking a full calendar year since all trials in the city were suspended.

The proceedings, which took place in retrofitted courtrooms and were streamed live over YouTube, went off mostly without significant technical difficulties, except for the end of the proceedings when the audio feeds appeared to cut out from the livestream for several minutes. There were also plenty of references to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and reminders from attorneys and judges that things inside the courtroom have changed.
