After years of slow growth when it comes to adding women and minority attorneys to the notoriously homogenous trial bar, plaintiffs-side civil firms have seen net losses of both women and minority attorneys over the past year, according to The Legal’s annual survey of diversity in the plaintiffs-side civil bar.

Overall, the trial bar suffered a nearly 4% drop in overall head count over the past year, with the 34 largest plaintiffs-side civil firms across the state losing a total of 22 lawyers. Of those departures, the bar saw a net loss of eight women and two minority attorneys, which resulted in a more than 5% drop in women lawyers and a nearly 4.5% drop in diverse attorneys in the state’s trial bar.
