For the second time in three weeks, a federal judge in Pennsylvania has told the reelection campaign for President Donald Trump that its lawsuit over mail-in ballot procedures in the state must wait until the Pennsylvania Supreme Court can determine the central issues underlying the suit.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan of the Western District of Pennsylvania denied the Trump campaign’s efforts to have the federal court issue an injunction segregating any ballots that are delivered to so-called drop boxes, which are sites independent of polling places where voters are expected to be able to drop off their ballots. The campaign’s request was allegedly made out of concern that some votes may be cast using the drop box system before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has a chance to address whether that method is legal under state law.
