Dilworth Paxson partner C. Lawrence Holmes was appointed to the board of directors of the Urban League of Philadelphia as its general counsel and a member of its executive committee.
Holmes succeeds Thomas Biemer, a Dilworth Paxson partner and chair of the firm's litigation department, who stepped down after eight years of service to the Urban League.
Holmes concentrates his practice on representing financial institutions such as insurance companies, finance lease companies and lenders.

Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman partner Marian A. Kornilowicz was re-elected as vice president of the Jagiellonian Law Society.
Kornilowicz is chair of Cohen Seglias' business transactions and real estate groups.

Speakers
James W. Cushing of the Law Office of Faye Riva Cohen is scheduled to address the fellows of the local chapter of the John Jay Institute on Thursday regarding vocation and the practice of law.
Cushing is an associate at the Law Office of Faye Riva Cohen and a research attorney for Legal Research Inc.
He has been a practicing attorney since 2002, passed the bar in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and is currently licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.

For the fifth consecutive municipal election cycle, Gawthrop Greenwood partner Anthony Verwey presented at the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce's local government 101 seminar.
During the seminar for newly elected officials as well as incumbents, Verwey presented on topics including the Sunshine Law, ethics law, public competitive bidding, ordinances and resolutions and prevailing wage law.
He also led a session on planning and zoning.
Verwey has been practicing law in Pennsylvania for more than 28 years.
His practice is focused in the areas of government and zoning law, real estate and land use, school law and legal ethics.
He currently advises elected and appointed public officials, boards, councils, as well as private developers and individual property owners on a variety of issues.
He presents on zoning, land use and government-related issues.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
