An irritated panel of judges for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit has ruled a case involving one structured settlement purchasing company’s lawsuit claiming a competitor stole its clients has no business in federal court.

The court’s irritation was directed at defendant Rapid Settlements’ first-time assertion after four years of litigation that the federal system does not have jurisdiction in Peachtree Settlements’ case against it. The case was originally filed in Texas state court.
