A Sherman, Texas, federal judge’s decision to toss the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s civil fraud complaint against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has not deterred special prosecutors pursuing criminal charges against the state’s top lawyer.

On Oct. 7, U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant granted Paxton’s motion to dismiss the SEC’s lawsuit, as it is written. Mazzant has allowed, however, the SEC 14 days to file a new complaint.
