Bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers are a hot commodity in Texas, particularly for firms with energy industry clients. The effect of low oil prices has pushed dozens of energy companies to restructure their finances or file for bankruptcy. That’s created a boom in business for Texas firms with energy clients and bankruptcy expertise. That in turn has prompted firms to try to beef up their bankruptcy strength by hiring laterals.

“They are bulking up,” Houston firm consultant William Cobb said.
