A Houston man seeks up to $10 million in a legal malpractice lawsuit he filed against Seyfarth Shaw, Houston partner Emma Mata and former partner David Waddell, alleging that the defendants’ work in a suit that ended with a $10 million judgment against him was “egregiously bad.”

Plaintiff James C. Stewart alleges in the petition he filed on Oct. 14 in the 129th District Court in Harris County that the defendants’ conduct in representing him fell well below the standard of care. Among many things, Stewart alleges that the defendants assigned an “inexperienced associate” as the lead counsel; misrepresented to him that there was no conflict of interest between him and other defendants in the underlying suit; falsely represented to him that another defendant would indemnify him; did not take any depositions prior to trial; and failed to communicate a less than $1 million settlement offer to him prior to the trial starting.
