A former staff attorney for Corpus Christi’s Thirteenth Court of Appeals has filed a federal lawsuit against Chief Justice Rogelio “Roy” Valdez, alleging that he was terminated and later refused another position with the court in retaliation for reporting Valdez to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

The case, Anderson v. State of Texas, which was filed in a Southern District of Texas U.S. District Court on Oct. 21, is being brought under the 42 U.S.C. §1983 civil rights statute, in which the plaintiff alleges that his First Amendment free speech rights have been violated.
