Much as lawyers might roll their eyes at business-speak, some of the jargon actually refers to concepts that can help general counsel save money and succeed with their boards of directors and the executive team.

When I started my first in-house job, most of us were relatively new to in-house practice, after working at various BigLaw shops. We were still learning big company corporate-speak, which included the ubiquity and enthusiastic use of what we called TLAs: three-letter acronyms. We were surrounded by SEDs, IPCs and even IMCs, and our employer (EDS) was itself a TLA.
