Senior partner John Porter will become the partner-in-charge of Baker Botts’ Houston office on Jan. 1, 2014, succeeding Maria Boyce, who will continue to serve on the Houston-based firm’s executive committee. Also on Jan. 1, Rob Scheinfeld will become partner-in-charge in the firm’s 64-lawyer New York City office, succeeding Lee Charles, and John Lonsberg is the incoming partner-in-charge for the firm’s Middle East offices. With that change in the Middle East, current partner-in-charge Bob Jordan will return to Dallas in the late spring or early summer of 2014, the firm announced in a press release December 2. Porter, who does tax litigation, said Andrew Baker, the firm’s managing partner, asked him to take the Houston management job. “The bottom line is to carry forward the firm’s strategic plan. Maria has done an outstanding job,” said Porter, who has served for the last seven years on the firm’s admissions information committee, which he said provides information about prospective partners to the firm’s executive committee. Boyce, who became partner-in-charge in Houston in 2007, said she is looking forward to returning full time to her litigation practice. She said her planned five-year stint as the manager in Houston stretched for more than six years, and she is ready for a change. The firm has 215 lawyers in Houston. “It’s been an interesting time, because obviously we went through 2008 and the challenges of that. We’ve seen incredible growth in our market both in respect of business opportunities and an increase in competition from global firms in our market,” said Boyce, the first woman to lead an office at Baker Botts.
