Doctor didn’t delay eye surgery for infant, defense argued
On April 26, a jury sided with a doctor who was sued for allegedly delaying eye surgery for an infant. The family of Dominic Comer claimed that Dr. Jorge Fabio Llamas-Soforo had delayed treatment by three days and provided negligent treatment relating to the child’s vision problems. Comer developed a total retinal detachment, which resulted in blindness in one eye and sustained macular dragging and partial retinal detachment in the other eye. Llamas-Soforo contended that he delayed treatment so he could properly arrange the procedure, and that acting immediately would have been negligent. He further contended that the delay was within the standard of care.
