An infusion of funding from the Texas Legislature combined with agreements by more than 90 banks to pay higher interest rates on lawyers’ trust accounts will help nonprofit legal services providers in the state avoid a financial crisis in 2010.

When the Texas Access to Justice Foundation board meets in Austin on Sept. 2, it is expected to award more money in grants to 42 providers of civil legal services for low-income Texans than the board awarded in 2008.
