A federal judge in the Western District of Texas issued an order banning enforcement of a new voting law that restricted assistance to limited English speaking and disabled voters.

U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman has ruled that two provisions of a state Senate bill, SB1, passed in September 2021, violate a 2018 permanent injunction, which ruled Texas’ limitations on assistance violated a voter’s right to get help from a person of their choice, under Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act.
