The Austin City Council approved a multimillion dollar settlement with sexual assault survivors, despite prevailing in federal court, and with the hope the terms will be a model to other cities.

Setting aside custom, Mayor Steve Adler had assistant city attorney Sara Schaefer read into the record the conditions of the settlement in the cases Smith et al v. City of Austin et al, and Senko et al v. City of Austin et al. The details of lawsuits are not normally discussed in public hearings.
