The Texas Court of Appeals for the Fifth District sided with Lyft on Monday, holding the company complied with ride-sharing services laws after a passenger injured in a crash claimed it was negligent in its hiring and retention of one of its drivers.

Rebecca Blaser was approved to drive as an independent contractor for Lyft in May 2017 after she submitted proper documents—such as proof of insurance—and she also passed third-party driving and background checks, according to the appellate court’s ruling.
