Harry Reasoner, a senior partner at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, is stepping down after 12 years as chair of the Texas Access to Justice Commission.

The Texas Supreme Court announced that Locke Lord partner Harriet Miers of Dallas will succeed Reasoner on Jan. 1, 2022. In the order making the announcement, the Supreme Court wrote that the commission has made “incredible strides in the pursuit of its mission to increase the quality and quantify of civil legal services for the poor in Texas” under Reasoner’s leadership. Reasoner, a former managing partner of Vinson & Elkins, said he’s spent a substantial amount of his time over the last 12 years on commission work, because the mission is so important to him. Miers, former managing partner of Locke Lord and counsel to President George W. Bush, said she will wait until she is chair to discuss her immediate goals for the commission, but in an email expressed her appreciation for Reasoner’s leadership and efforts.
