Scott Ellis of Foley & Lardner, vice chair of the national energy litigation practice and hiring partner for the Houston office, is recognized for his abilities as a trial attorney, but his passion for mentorship earned him the firm’s Carl Hitchner Mentor of the Year Award in 2019, presented annually to recognize outstanding mentoring to Foley’s young attorneys.

He mentors attorneys as hiring partner, through the summer associate program, and as a certified mentor for the firm, formally mentoring three associates in his practice group. He extends his outreach to young, aspiring lawyers as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center, teaching  2L and 3L trial advocacy and as an active participant in the school’s pre-law pipeline program, designed to increase the diversity of law school applicants.
