Despite COVID-19 restrictions that sent them home to work, justices on the Texas Supreme Court had a productive year in 2020.

The high court issued 25% more opinions of all types in fiscal year 2020 compared to 2019, and the number of cases it decided by opinion jumped to 100 from 86 last year. Data from the Texas Office of Court Administration for the fiscal year, which ran Sept. 1, 2019, to Aug. 31, 2020, shows that the high court put out 136 opinions—that counts majority, per curiam, concurring and dissenting—in the most recent fiscal year. That compares to 109 total opinions in fiscal year 2019.
