Justices on the Texas Supreme Court seemed skeptical during an oral argument Tuesday about whether it was appropriate—or even possible—for a court to remedy an injury that a law student experienced when he was dismissed for having a 1.98 GPA.

But ex-student Ivan Villarreal had alleged that there had been a cheating scandal and that his school, Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law, had handled it improperly, which contributed to his failure.
