The State Bar of Texas’ board of directors will no longer consider restricting the bar president from serving as a spokesman over critical comments he made about Black Lives Matter, after the director behind the proposal withdrew the measure Thursday.

Larry McDougal, the president of the bar, came under fire and apologized for social media posts he made about Black Lives Matter, including a recent post that claimed wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt to the polls would violate a state law against electioneering. Posts from previous years then resurfaced, including one from 2015 describing the group as a “terrorist organization” and another featuring a photo of a police officer kneeling on a man’s neck with the caption, “Justice happens before the trial.”
